TECCS Special Services Department

The Ethical Community Charter School (TECCS) is dedicated to providing high-quality education to students with disabilities who require special education services, in compliance with New Jersey Administrative Code.

Approximately 12% of students at TECCS receive special education services, which encompass both inclusion support within the classroom and "pull out or resource" services provided in a separate environment.

Our Special Services Staff comprises experts in their respective fields, committed to crafting individualized education plans and delivering essential services tailored to meet the unique needs of each student.

Students may be referred to the Child Study Team for evaluation by teachers, parents/guardians, and the I&RS team. Parents/guardians can request an evaluation for their child by writing to the Child Study Team (CST) Coordinator.

The process begins with a planning meeting where all available information is reviewed with parents/guardians, the CST, the child's teacher, and other relevant parties. Subsequently, a decision is made either to attempt interventions within the general education setting or to proceed with a full CST evaluation. If an evaluation is agreed upon, written parent consent is required.

Individual evaluations are conducted by CST members based on their specialties. A written report is then prepared and sent to parents in advance of an Eligibility Meeting, where all evaluations and recommendations are discussed. Parental input is integral throughout this process, and parents may invite others to any meeting if desired.
